About us

The Tanks of Anekal project has been funded by the faculty grants scheme of the Research Centre of Azim Premji University with the goal of producing data that are accessible and actionable. The project welcomes volunteer inputs and contributions, so do write at the email below if you are interested in working on any aspect of urban lake documentation, survey or management. Positions for research associates are announced at regular intervals – currently there are no open positions.

Project Lead

Kaustubh Rau

Faculty in the School of Arts and Sciences, Kaustubh Rau is a biologist interested in uncovering the changing aspects of our relationship with nature. This project was started because of the rapid pace of destruction that he observed during his bird-watching trips to Anekal’s tanks. He would like the website to catalyse change in the way people think about natural resources by becoming familiar with tanks close to where they live, develop a relationship with them  and get involved in attempts to conserve them.
